A group at IC is doing a project on educating people about the sexism and gender stereotypes in Disney movies. (Most of you know that I dearly love Disney movies, even though I'm aware of the serious flaws present in them.)
This is one of the videos they have posted.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1kLHZ2xGmUkIt's not a particularly good video and I don't agree with some of their examples, etc, but it still makes a valid point.
The comments on YouTube in response to the video are ridiculous. They all hate the video and don't get the message. This comment in particular pissed me off, "Gender Traits, are largely organic not enforced. Yes, many girls naturally like "princess" stuff.
Growing up most of me female cousins liked disney princesses, while the boys liked killer robots.
There is just a tremendous snobbery among some women, that turn their nose jobs up at it. Im not sure why"
*bangs head against the wall*
Girls "naturally" like this? Gender roles aren't "enforced"? Wanting to be free of restrictive gender roles is "snobbery"? This person has no understanding of gender or culture. If you are going to showcase your ignorance, could you at least use correct punctuation?
